So You Think You Can Dance
Results Show

August 3, 2006

Yeah, time for America’s favorite family dance show. What the hell is Cat wearing? I didn’t realize I tuned in to a 70s porno! Hello Saturday Night Fever. Oh and if you couldn’t tell already, love the suit. I take the porn comment back, but it's way 70's and I totes approve.

Opening Routine:
It’s a Mime Funeral! I don’t know what it was but it more than made up for last week’s not so great Chicago opening number. It was powerful, painful, raw, and incredibly moving. Travis’ flying front leap into Benji and Ivan’s arms. I rewatched it 3 times. I absoloved this routine! Choreographed by Mia Michaels.

Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself - Hide and Seek

I like the think that all of us on the blogs and boards are keeping this show alive! 12.5 million votes people, that is amazing. Next summer this show will be as big as Idol. We’ll make sure of it.

Cat just revealed out Top 3 Girls. Look, Cousin Heidi’s in
blue again. I don’t know if you’ve realized or not but I sooooo broke the case on Heidi’s wardrobe. I’m calling out the wardrobe department. There’s a whole rainbow of fruit flavors available and I’m pretty sure Cousin Heidi can rock any one of them. Let’s get on other hues. Donyelle, namaste.

The Top 6 Solos:

Natalie – It was a wasted routine. I’m over her emotional numbers. Pull it together you are on television. There’s Allison, oy with the crying. These kids need to pull it together.

Jann Arden - Living Under June - I Would Die for You
“I Would Die For You” by Jann Arden

Heidi – There she goes, that horse back is amazing. Muscle and sctructure. Its pretty amazing that body of hers. I liked the ending turns and split. Is anyone debating that she can move? No. Well Mia is. I had a whole huge debate with my boss over Mia. The difference between her harsh comments (and they are more jaded than Nigel’s) is that she is approaching this and each of them as a real dance scenario. She talks to them as if she was their dance instructor. She’s hard but she’s honest. She’s giving them the work over to ensure they continue to improve. I like that Mia Michaels…

Black Eyed Peas - Hip Hop Gold - Hey Mama
“Hey Mama” by Black Eyed Peas

Donyelle - India.Donnie! I loved her solo, a mix of east meets west. Her outfit was an interesting choice but she looks beautiful. Mia tried to call Donyelle out on her growth and Howler Mary wasn’t having it. Its like everytime the choreographer gets real and tries to give America a dancers perspective the Producers zap either Nigel or Mary’s seats calling them into damage control!

The Pussycat Dolls - PCD - Buttons
“Buttons” by Pussycat Dolls

Travis – God the boards lit up over his “same routine” last night and even on his wardrobe choice. I’m glad he reads them; he totally changed his style and clothing for this solo. NOT! God, the wrath he’ll incur. That dumbstruck look at the end of his performance? High-sterical. Its like he didn’t realize he only had 30 seconds. Nigel called him a “stunning technician” and told him he could win this competition. Mary compared him to Rocky I think. Mia said it all. “It would be a privledge for me to hire and work with you for the rest of my career.”

Westlife - Westlife - Flying Without Wings
“Flying Without Wings (A Capella)” by Westlife (I couldn't find the a capella)

Ivan’s poppin’ just seems to get better and better. His removal of the jean jacket was flawless and quiet (is that possible)? It just flew off with grace. The kid may be jailbait, but he can move move move! Mia’s fallen in love with Ivan, I just saw GMMR run down the street ready to rumble.

“I Question Mark” by Wade Robson

Benji – the stage slides are incredible (remember the only way Ivan could do that was with wheelies); his showmanship and charisma unbeatable. Nigel just solidified his Final 2 and they are Benji and Travis. Can I just point out that he did slam his head into the stair railing. Mia just called him out as being a “limited” but “special” dancer. Girl can cut you down just as fast as she can pump you up. A conundrum that Mia Michaels.

Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot - The Swingin' Hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Brown Derby Jump
“Brown Derby Jump” by Cherry Poppin’ Daddies

Omarion performed. Wasn’t he in “You Got Served”? Well, at least there is a dance connection. Though his opening moves wouldn’t have put him past the audition process. These kids kick his ass in dance! And why don’t these musical performers use our dancers? It would be a great venue for them!

Nigel has news… The Bench is in, the Paso Doble as well! Ticket sale date has been moved up by 1 day to August 11th! Reset your calendars.

The Results:
Well not exactly. It’s the longest verbal recap I’ve ever heard as Cat runs though what seemed like every year and event of each contestants life. In the end, we narrowed the field down to 2 as Cat told Cousin Heidi she was safe for yet another week.

Time to narrow down the Guys. I’ve grown facial hair and now have scoliosis in the time it took Cat to recap the gents. Where’s my walker? 2007. 2009. 2020. The years are melting away. Finally, TRAVIS IS SAFE! He freaks, I freaked though as I’m now 70 (post recap) I almost broke a hip.

Oh, we’re dimming the lights.

The Results Part 2:
Natalie: “Oopah” Nigel is right, when Musa left this competition Natalie did lose a part of her spirit and drive. This is a hard one. I actually got choked up a little! Who knew?

Ivan – God, I’m teary. Seriously, I need to distance myself from these kids. The pouty shot of Allison and Ivan said it all. I’ll miss the Man-boy Jailbait Ivan.

I can see it now: 3:15am GMMR calls - she just got back from scrappin' with Mia. She's got a hand full of pills and a bottle of vodka beside her. She's fetal and sobbing uncontrollably. A friends work is never done. Ivan, you've ruined my girl.

*just a reminder, I post links to each song on iTunes, I hope it helps find some of those more hard to find numbers these performers choose each week.

  • Well, Ducky, I have to say that I agree with who went home and I think the final 4 will make for a really great finale/competition.

While I also agree with you on Mia and her comments, why did she not do the same with Ivan? He was the least skilled dancer there and she didn't say anything negative to him. She said nothing negative to Travis (but then again, how could she, really?). But if you are going to say those things about Benji, Donyelle, and Heidi, doesn't Ivan deserve some negative feedback? Or maybe she has so little faith in him as a dancer, she didn't even bother? Well, I think with a good bit of training he could really pull off any type of dance. And now he knows he can.

I love your blog! I just can't wait for Thurs & Fri mornings to read your blogs on SYTYCD. I can't wait for fall shows to start so we can discuss those too. OK back to work...

  • That Mia MIchael knows how to throw down. Thank God my friend Veronica lent me her taser, because without it I just don't know if I would have been able to take her.

The alcohol induced rage is starting to wear off, but I still don't know who that guy was in my bed this morning, or why he was wearing clown shoes. Bizarre!!

I agree with linzmcc about Mia/Ivan. I thought she was much harsher than she should have been at this point in the competition. I thought she was trying a bit TOO hard to pull for her boy Travis. She clearly wants him to win, and she wasn't shy about pushing for him.

Lastly, I thought for sure that once she annouced his departure Ivan was going to try to feel Cat up. When she asked about his favorite moment, I would have put money on the fact that he would have said "This" - and then grabbed her boob.

Goodbye Jailbait Ivan...I can't wait to see you on October 4th.

  • I didn't sleep last night so my brain is all fuzzy (isn't it always) and I'll only say this:

Travis Screaming ''Tranji finale!'' made my night and I'm in love with Ivan's removal-of-the-jacket move :)

(The guys who does the recaps on the fox website is a boring incompetent, I love you)

  • Hoooooooppppppaaaa! *raises arms in the air*

Excellent recap, as always, Duckilious! Ok, no idea where that came from...mark it down to the drugs, or the alcohol, or the residuals from Mia's bitch out last night. See the universe had to balance out the scales, hence all the love today.

We have what I would call, the "dream team final four" and can't wait to see the Travis/Benji pairing. I think it is going to leave the rest of them in the dust.

Anyway off to fill Mia's bi-polar meds! Best to you, Kat:)

  • GMMR, was that Vinnie VanLowe next to you?

Glad you were able to use Veronica's taser to take down Mia - she's a scrapper.

linzmcc, Mia was much more harsh on the girls and Benji... well, the girls still works. HA! She gave Travis the key to her golden city and gave Ivan her undying love. Its the way it rolls I guess, she was worked up and wanted to make sure people heard who she wants to win. I don't have a problem with that at all but I do think she could have said some negative things about ALL of the contestants...

Katrina, does a horse tranq come with Mia's meds?

  • linzmcc (and all readers),

What fall shows do you watch or will you be watching? I'd like to keep track of what people are into so I can stay abreast (hehe) of it all over here on the site.

    Thanks

  • Marie, its the new catchprase sweeping the nation:

    TRANJI FINALE!

By Blogger duckyxdale, at 8/04/2006 03:14:00 PM

  • Oh where to begin? I watch the following shows (don’t worry – you are not expected to watch ALL my shows, unless you really want to): Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Survivor, The Office (I can rely on GMMR for discussions on this), Bones, and What About Brian. I am very worried that I will miss pilots of shows that end up being great and then I will feel lost (which is why I haven’t hopped on the Veronica Mars train). And don’t get me started on how I am supposed to survive without a weekly dose of Everwood.

Oh and did you see that Ivan danced to ANOTHER Wade Robson song last night? I looked him up on wikipedia and he is listed as a “recording artist” although his official website lists his work only as a “dance beats CD”. Thank GOODNESS he isn’t trying to rap or sing –let’s stick with what we are good at.

I have too much time on my hands today, huh?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8/04/2006 03:33:00 PM

  • I'm on everything but Bones and Brian. You're safe!

And I did notice the Wade tip again. What's that all about?

By Blogger duckyxdale, at 8/04/2006 03:45:00 PM

  • Dang that Mia Michaels! I like her, I do. Except for sometimes, I hate her. As others pointed out, she gave Ivan a free pass this week, which I wouldn't have minded except that she lit into every single one of the girls. Oh, and I almost died laughing from your "mime funeral" line. SO TRUE! And so excited for the finale!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8/04/2006 04:57:00 PM

  • i have no one to watch in the finale!! :'( both my favorites are gone!! that depresses me! the pairing was pretty much BS & i dont think the judges could have been any more biased.
i do agree w/ the whole musa took a part of natalie w/ him. she started all her emotional rampage stuff after he was out. i would have too. im bummed he wont be on the tour w/ them.
